Notez le point 5 sur la skyshield.
- Spoiler:
- . Basics first - what do you think of those basics ? Any suggestion ?
Here are the guidelines used to pre-setup terrain last year :
*target terrain coverage is 25%. Ideally, mark the center of each table, then fill up one quarter of each with target terrain type repartition before spreading them out.
*See above repartition per terrain type for each of the 8 Tables of the 14 Rows
*If you have more terrain from another club, just fill up as many rows as you can do so well with this club's terrain, and leave the rest ot the terrain you made available, I will use it to fillup gaps wherever needed
* No Big / LOS blocking terrain within 6' of the dead center ( 24 from long table edges and 36 from small table edges)
* Opposite deployment zones must be balanced and more often than not symetrical ( we deploy on the long edges or, quarters and diagonal which are pretty similar in termes of zones to look out for)
* biggest LOS Blocking terrain available must be set up rougly 6' to 18' from the dead centre, on opposite sides if there is 2, nearer to the table center if there is only one
* Lakes must always be setup in the middle of one flank ( 24 from long table edges and 18 from a small table edge)
* Make sure pieces are well spaced out, on average 6 to 10 inches from each other
* hills are best used on flanks too, but can be used in corners in which case remember the symetry
This document further describes tables template and stickers :

A few other basics :
* we had a vote earlier this season to confirm that terrain is pre set by the organizer (as opposed by the players)
* dangerous terrain is out
* hammer and anvil deployment which was chosen this year will be taken into account to adress the symetry into the terrain setup instructions
* the serbs are building us more LOS blockers to add to last year's terrain
* we will also benefit this year from the generous support of Mantic which will provide roughly one urban fighting style table per gaming row
Overall, given the nature of terrain available, we're going to end up, with roughly a good dozen pieces of terrain per table , well spread, and the potential of approximately +1 piece of terrain per table than last year.
2/ Terrain Maps
a/ Any suggestion on how to implement terrain maps at ETC ?
b/Would you support an attempt at implementing maps at ETC ?
Our WFB cousins have been using pre-set terrain maps for some time. NOVA does this too - but with big and very few chunks of terrain which result in tables much more empty than we're used to in europe.
At 40k its difficult because not every piece is the same format, but we could make an attempt at drawing maps with terrain types approximations.
In the long run I think it would be extremely beneficial to have maps to help players have a common ground (litterally) on site and during their training.
3/ Specific terrain elements
a/ would you support using lakes ?
b/ would you support using roads ?
c/ any other specific terrain elements you'd like to suggest ?
Last year I added lakes because it is easy to do and I wanted to see if it could make for some additional interesting tactical challenges. It was also an easy terrain addition for a venue where I didnt know how much terrain we'd end up with in advance. I think feedback from lakes are pretty mixed up in a negative way, also I'm pretty sure its in large parts due to the usual adverse reaction to change and novelty, but its a vague opinion, so please provide a more precise one.
For this year I wanted to suggest the addition of roads. Organisationaly speaking it isnt too difficult to make it happen either with painting tables directly, or printing & gluing road drawings. The rare times I have played with roads in tournament I enjoyed the specific boost to ground vehicles, and I'm thinking with the current state of the meta in 6th and the many nerfs they have suffered, it could be nice to add a few roads to value the courageous players using some. What do you say ?
All in all, I think we all value tables that are diversified, we just need to bare in mind that in ETC we want it to be consistent from row to row and everyone to be on the same page.
4/ Table themes
a/ do you want tables to be themed ?
b/ do you want to change themes from last year and if yes how ?
Last year we have themed tables in a consistent manner for every row of 8 tables (cf linked document above on the second page) : 4 'regular' tables, 2 'city ' tables and 2 'jungle hill' tables.
5/ Terrain organisation
a/ do you support the use of stickers like last year ?
b/ any suggestion how to adjust definition of each sticker / change the way we mark them ?
c/ would you support the use of printed pictures of terrain layout ?
Last year we have used stickers to differentiate each and every piece of terrain. In my opinion it did save the referee a lot of awkward questions. It saves time also in game because the pre-game terrain discussion between players is very much minimized. I've received a lot of positive feedback for this, but maybe on reflection the effort is not worth it since I also heard that players are big enough to arrange amongst themselves on such issues.
Be sure that the effort is massive : multiply 120 tables by 12+ pieces of terrain and you'll see what I mean...
An alternative way of marking terrain is to take a zenithal picture of it, print one of each for each side, and we can sticky the prints in one corner of each table side to categorize terrain. We were able to do that only in etc 2010 as far as I can remember, which was nice to avoid the well known phenomenon of terrain moving around. I'm thinking we could also boost the use of this in marking terrain (possibly with stickers) directly on the print, which would make it easier to implement as well as avoiding stickers to get lost.
5/ The skyshield again
a/ shall we plan specific spaces to deploy the skyshield on every tables ?
b/ shall we plan specific spaces to deploy the skyshield on a few tables per row ?
c/ shall we allow players who have skyshield to move one piece of terrain out of the table if they're not able to otherwise do so ?
Given the type of terrain that we have available (numerous pieces) it is very likely that it will be extremly difficult to setup a skyshield on the tables. That is why last year we have ruled that it was possible to have the skyshield set up above some portions of terrain - which has been voted against this year so we're not changing that. The question really is, do you want the skyshield to be usable or not and if yes then we have to set up some ground rules to support this.
